Core Competencies

Our transport expertise can be summarised into five key areas - Infrastructure, Transport Operations, Road Safety, Accessibility and Transport Policy. In every area the TRCS has leading world experts who we can call upon to offer advice. With a knowledge base extending over every continent, the TRCS can also provide advice from experts with first hand knowledge of an enquirers country.

Infrastructure - our expertise covers the entire process of designing and implementing a transportation infrastructure, including design, maintenance, financing and social and environmental impact assessment.

Transport Operations - -we can offer expert knowledge in the fields of urban and rural public transport, intermediate transportation methods and freight transport. Transport operations experts can also advise you on management and finance, regulation and private sector development.

Road Safety - we have several years of experience accident analysis, road safety education and possible engineering mitigation measures.

Accessibility - planning for accessibility to basic services is sometimes overlooked as a transport issue, as is the advent of information technology, and its implementation in the developing world. Careful transport planning has myriad benefits in access to health, education and markets.

Transport Policy - integrated transport policy has wide-ranging implications for both the developed and developing world. Transport planners must now be aware of an ever wider range of issues influencing policy development. We can offer knowledge in the relationships between cross cutting themes such as poverty, gender and HIV/AIDS and transport. The TRCS also has a considerable experience in applying the sustainable livelihood's approach.
